Sustainable Food
Improving the health of the community and the environment, the city creates
opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and participate
in a vibrant local food system, through community gardens and Share
the Harvest, the Coppell Farmers Market, and interactive classes to increase
access to locally grown food.
The City of Coppell started the community garden initiative in 1998 by dedicating a
permanent growing space next to Town Center and supporting the Coppell Community Garden organization. This has become an increasingly popular activity to grow organic produce and at the same time share it with those in need.
These initiatives have served as models for other communities with the increased need for sustainable food systems.
