Technical Rescue Team Print E-mail

As part of an effort to regionalize assets in the early 1990’s, the Metrocrest Chiefs’ Association entered into a multi-city agreement to provide technical rescue services throughout the region without each department having to specialize in every rescue discipline.  As part of the agreement, CFD developed a Trench Rescue program.  With service needs varying in an ever-changing region, coupled with the events of 9/11, the department recognized that its capabilities in Technical Rescue could easily be adapted to other areas of Technical Rescue.  In 2003, CFD expanded its capabilities to include Trench,  Confined Space, and Heavy Rescue.  The Coppell Fire Department Technical Rescue Team is on-duty 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.  A call for service will be accommodated with at least three apparatus and ten personnel.

Technical Rescue Training

CFD trains all personnel to the level of Trench Technician and Confined Space Rescue Technician.  Additionally, CFD performs training for other jurisdictions on how to respond to a trench or confined space rescue and how to stabilize the scene before the CFD TR team arrives.

Technical Rescue Apparatus

The cornerstone apparatus of the Technical Rescue Team was added to the fleet in 2005 when the Coppell Fire Department took delivery of Rescue 122, a Pierce Sabre Heavy-Duty Rescue with 18’ body, 35kW generator, Will-burt Light Tower, and an air cascade system.

Truck 122, a 95’ Quint with an aerial platform, will respond with Rescue 122. In addition, Utility 122 along with the rescue trailer, will respond with additional rescue equipment and supplies and long-term event supplies.

Technical Rescue Equipment

CFD has enhanced its capabilities immensely through grants from the State Homeland Security Program.  Since 2003, CFD has used over $463,000 in grant money to enhance its Technical Rescue Team. Some of the equipment purchased includes:

F-250 Utility Truck
Wells Cargo Trailer
Turtle Plastics Crib Kit "B"
TNT Hydraulic Rescue Equipment
Arizona Vortex Tripod Rescue Equipment
Airshore USAR Emergency Response Kit & Rescue Lift Bags
Snake Eye Camera Kit
Swift Water Rescue Equipment
