Contractor Registration Print E-mail

General Information

The Building Inspections Department requires contractors who do construction work in Coppell to register with the city.   Please click here to register.  The City of Coppell requires the following five types of registration:

 

  • General Contractor
  • Electrical
  • Mechanical
  • Plumbing
  • Irrigation

 

A general contractor is considered any contractor who performs any of the services listed in the following categories:

 

  • Homebuilders and Remodelers
  • Commercial Construction
  • Remodeling and Renovation
  • Screening and Retaining Walls
  • Swimming Pools and Spas
  • Fences
  • Signs
  • Miscellaneous

 

Initial Contractor Registration

For a first-time registration, all contractors are required to do the following:

 

Register in person;

Furnish a copy of the license-holder's driver's license;

Furnish a copy of the appropriate home-based or state license; and complete a one-page registration voucher.

 

Fees, Registration Requirements, and Expiration

Registration Class Fee Special Requirements Expiration
General Contractor $100.00 Home builders must also have a state license when registering with the city.  If a state license has not been acquired by the home builder, registration will not be valid.  Proof of liability insurance must be provided. One full year from date of registration.
Electrician $85.00 Master electricians must have a state license when registering with the city.  If a state license has not been acquired by the electrician, registration will not be valid.

When current state license expires, the license must first be renewed and then contractor must re-register with the city.

Mechanical and Irrigation $75.00 Mechanical and irrigation contractors must have a state license when registering with the city.  If a state license has not been acquired by the mechanical or irrigator, registration will not be valid.

Plumbing N/A Plumbing contractors must have a state license when registering with the city.  If a state license has not been acquired by the plumber, registration will not be valid.

Registration Renewal

In all five categories of registration, renewal forms are mailed to registered persons one month prior to the expiration date, allowing renewal by mail, if completed prior to the expiration date.  Registrations are accepted by the Building Inspections Department at 500 Southwestern Blvd., Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
