The creature from Mary Shelley's famous novel bears little resemblance to the Halloween version of Frankenstein's monster. Learn how this radical female author broke all the rules by writing one of the first science fiction novels at the age of 18. We will also discuss her very personal struggles that emerge between the lines of this classic horror story. You don't need to have read the text to participate, just come with a curious mind. This program is designed primarily for adults; however teens age 15 and up are also welcome to attend. Space is limited and registration is required.

We will begin in that space where pen hovers over page; the beginning. Drawing inspiration from our favorite authors, we will dive into establishing your own writing practice, the importance of rituals, and the rules of writing. Plan on getting excited about the power of “first thoughts”, censoring your internal editor, overcoming writer’s block, and more! Don’t forget paper and pen; we have writing exercises aimed at strengthening your writing muscles and inspiring your practice. For ages 16 and up. All ages may attend with an adult.

Man Who Caught the Storm: Author Talk

Join us for a continuation of our Indie Author day activities as we welcome North Texas author Brantley Hargrove, a freelance journalist and the author of The Man Who Caught the Storm, on the life and death of legendary storm chaser and tornado researcher Tim Samaras. Brantley has written for Wired, Popular Mechanics, and Texas Monthly, and he has chased violent storms from the Great Plains down to the Texas coast, including a land-falling Category 4 hurricane and twin EF4 tornadoes in Nebraska. He will show footage from his storm chasing adventures as well as share insights about his writing career. Program attendees will be entered in a drawing to win one of 3 copies of The Man Who Caught the Storm. Winners will be drawn at the end of the program and may pick up their book from the library any time we are open.

Chief Danny Barton of the Coppell Police Department will sit down on Zoom with a local citizen and discuss various topics including defunding the police, police training, and racism in Coppell. There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. Space is limited and registration is required. You only need to register one person for each household that will be viewing together.
