The Cozby Library and Community Commons would like to invite young artists to participate in the Storybook Contest going on through January 31, 2019! This contest is for grades K – 12. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 31 at 9 p.m. and winners will be announced by Monday, February 11. Contestants must submit illustrated picture books.
First place winners will receive a bound copy of their illustrated book. A copy of the book will be added to the Library's local author collection, published on Biblioboard, and displayed on the Storybook Walk. Second place winners will receive a bound copy of their book, and a copy will be published on Biblioboard.
Guidelines for this contest are outlined below:
If you would like to submit a written piece, entries must be in picture book format that compliments the book's artwork. The pages of your book must be in proper order with numbers written lightly on the back. Entries must not have been previously published. Title page must include the title, author's name, and illustrator's name. Format, spelling, and grammar are all factors in the judging process.
If you would like to submit an illustrated piece, do not use trademarked, brand names, or licensed characters or products. Artwork can be created using paints, inks, crayons, markers, original computer graphics, original photography, cut paper, and printing processes (linoleum block, silk screen, sponge painting, potato stamping, etc.). Pencil drawings are not recommended. Works must fill most of the page. Do not use newspaper print as background.
Submission formatting guidelines:
To organize your entry for submission, arrange all pages in order (with marked number on back) and place in a folder or envelope. Do not bind the pages. Provide cover art and a dedication page; these will not be counted as part of the page count. Be sure to include the completed entry form with your work and deliver to the front desk of the Library by the January 31 deadline. Email or fax submissions will not be accepted.
First and second place winners will be chosen from two age divisions: K – 5th grade and 6th – 12th grade. Winning pieces will be chosen by an independent panel of librarians and teachers.
There will also be a Storybook Workshop on Thursday, January 3 at 3 p.m. for those who would like help with their works.
The submission form can be downloaded online, or a physical copy can be picked up at the Library. Be original and have fun!
