Musical Instrument Donation Drive

Libraries rock! We’ve partnered with Half Steps Music Foundation in Lewisville to collect used musical instruments. The Foundation believes music can change lives by reconditioning used musical instruments and donating them to organizations for the advancement of performing arts and music education. Firefighter 101: Fire Safety

July 2  |  1 - 2:30 pm  |  Life Safety Park
For 2nd and 3rd graders . Students in this class will learn what it means to be a firefighter and the ins-and-outs of the profession. While interacting and learning from a Coppell firefighter, students will get to be a junior firefighter for a day! Students will participate in the following activities:
  • Handling a real fire hose
  • Timed fire extinguisher contests
  • Bunk out contests and more!\

Celebrate Coppell – Parade Down Parkway

The fun continues on Independence Day with Celebrate Coppell – Parade Down Parkway. The parade begins at Samuel Blvd. and Sandy Lake Rd., travels north on Samuel to Parkway Blvd., then heads west to Town Center Blvd. Dress up in your most festive red, white and blue, and line the parade route early for the best spot to watch the creative floats go by! Get Down with Safety (with JEEPS!)

For K - 1st grade. Students in this class will learn about basic fire safety elements, such as Stop, Drop and Roll, the importance of having a home fire escape plan and understanding smoke alarms. After this short classroom portion, students will then meet with a firefighter to learn about his/her safety gear. Registered students will then be given a quick overview on jeep operation before getting drive time around Safety Town. Register at lifesafetypark.org.

Public Hearing and Budget Workshop

CPR-AED Class

July 12  |  6-9 pm  |  Life Safety Park
CPR AED is a three-hour instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children and infants. Note:
  • This class does not provide the card needed for some professions.
  • There is no minimum age requirement for this class; However, all registrants need to be capable of comprehending the material and participating in the activities.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to start time.
  • This class is free of charge!

Splish Splash Storytime

For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE and the Cozby Library have partnered to offer this special storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing and fun! This event is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 12:45 pm. If you would like to stay and swim after 12:45 pm, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass or pay the regular day pass rate.

Beep, Beep: JEEPS!

For K- 1st grades. Students in this class will learn about basic motor vehicle and pedestrian safety skills, such as understanding when and where it is safe to cross a street and responsible car passenger skills (buckling up, booster seat requirements). After the classroom presentation, students will be given time to practice their learned skills around Safety Town. Register at lifesafetypark.org.

Tornado Town

July 18  |  12-1:30 pm  |  Life Safety Park
For 4th - 8th graders.  This course is designed to teach students about severe weather awareness and emergency preparedness. The classroom portion will be interactive with online quizzes and participation, so a smartphone or tablet device is recommended. After the classroom lesson, students will get to participate in a scavenger hunt around Safety Town to create their own emergency kit during a mock emergency situation! Topics include:
  • Common North Texas weather hazards
  • Difference between a weather “watch” and “warning”
  • Sources of getting emergency information
  • Preparedness planning

For Preschool and Early Elementary Ages.  In celebration of National Park and Recreation Month, Coppell Parks and Recreation is teaming up with Play Street Museum on Wheels! Play Street Museum on Wheels brings the fun and educational benefits of the wildly popular Play Street Children’s Museums physical locations right to you! Their 26 foot long retro Airstream® is stocked full of museum quality interactive exhibits, learning based toys, creative play structures, and arts/crafts materials.

For K - 5th grades. Students in this class will learn about how to be safe in the summer sun and when finding relief in the water. Topics will include general water and pool safety practices, open water safety (life jackets), and heat safety. To cap off the class with some fun, students will then be treated to a water balloon fight out on Safety Town! Please dress your child for water activities. Cake Decorating

Crash Course: Basic First Aid

For 4th - 8th graders. This course is designed to teach basic first aid ailments and treatments. After the classroom lesson, students will be given scenarios to practice their learned skills around Safety Town! Students will learn about:
  • Understanding 'first aid'
  • Recognizing and treating common bleeds
  • Recognizing and treating common burns
  • Accidental poisonings
  • Recognizing and treating common insect bites and stings

College Safety 101

Do you have a graduating high school senior that's about to head off to college, or live on their own for the first time? Hear from local professionals on the latest home, fire and personal safety tips for incoming college students and first-time renters during this free class at Life Safety Park. UNT Police, Coppell Police and Coppell Fire will refresh you about the latest safety tips for incoming college students and first-time renters. This knowledge will boost your safety and success while in college! Topics include:
  • Campus and residence security
  • Latest safety apps
  • Rohypnol, GHB and Ketamine information
  • Drug and alcohol awareness
  • Avoiding scams and identity theft
  • Avoiding the Freshman 15
