It's easy to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge! Keep track of everything online! Log each day that you read. When you reach 10 days, you'll get a coupon for the Friends of the Library Book Sale. At 20 days, you'll get a FREE book (while supplies last) and an entry into our Grand Prize Drawing! At 30 days, you'll get a FREE book (while supplies last) and an entry into the Prize Drawing! There will be Grand Prize winners for preschool kids, elementary kids, teens, and adults.

Donation Drive

June 1 – July 31  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

When we think of donation drives, we first think of canned goods during the holiday months, but hygiene items are in high demand all year long. This summer, the library will be collecting hygiene items like shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and laundry detergent for Metrocrest Services. A full list of requested items is available at the front desk. All donations will go to Metrocrest Services in Farmers Branch. Made for the Shade: Shade Gardening

Are your trees throwing shade? Does your landscape have problem areas where nothing seems to grow? Do you have mature trees and areas where your turf is receding? Don't accept being shaded out! Learn about the many native and adapted plants that not only survive but thrive in shadier spots along with tips and tricks to create beautiful shade gardens that beat the Texas heat. We'll also cover gardening under mature trees, as well as turf alternatives and hardscape options for low light areas. Pre-registration is required for all participants at coppellactivities.com. Pollinators in the Park

June 5  |   2 - 3 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

Join the Biodiversity Education Center for the Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz to help document the plants, insects, and animals of Coppell Nature Park. This is a national effort to see which city can make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people. Inside the BEC, we will learn all about different pollinators and why they are important to our ecosystem. Outside, become a citizen scientist by using your personal mobile device to record sightings of local pollinators. No reservations required.


Osteoarthritis Support Group

June 5  |   1 pm   |   Grapevine Springs Senior and Community Center

Are painful joints keeping you from activities you love? Dulce Bhatt, a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy with a specialty in Geriatrics, will provide a place where people can learn about osteoarthritis, share experiences, and ask questions. Dr. Bhatt will discuss the pathology and prevalence of osteoarthritis, coping strategies, current evidence on osteoarthritis, guide peer support, assist with finding community resources as applicable, and provide surveys to meet needs of members in a 30-minute session. For seniors ages 50+.


Discover: Dallas Zoo

Splish Splash Storytime

It's a special storytime at the pool! The CORE and Cozby Library are partnering again this summer to offer Splish Splash Storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing, and fun! Storytime is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 10:45 am. If you would like to stay and swim after 10:45 am, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass, or pay the regular day pass rate. For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE is located at 234 E. Parkway Blvd.

CPR Class

June 8  |   9 am – Noon   |   Life Safety Park, 820 S. Coppell Rd

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. Please register online at LifeSafetyPark.org.

Did you know that teenagers can be great listeners? Come join us at Read to a Teen, where children ages K-5 working on reading independently can buddy up with a teen and read aloud to them. We'll have a variety of Beginning Readers, Picture Books, and chapter books available at the event and in the library.

The meeting is open to the public and to hobbyists alike. Wild Day: Art in Nature

Experience the four-step process of Nature Explores "Look, Move, Build, Sketch" art technique. We will have natural artifacts to look at, we will move like our favorite animals, build nature with tree blocks and other natural materials, and we will sketch and color what we see in nature. Wild Wednesdays are intended for families and children ages 3 – 14. This is a "come and go" event with hands-on learning/activity stations.

Coppell Amateur Radio Enthusiasts (CARE)

Join the Coppell Amateur Radio Enthusiasts for a fun day of learning about Ham Radio and see the hobby in action at National Field Day on Saturday June 22, 2019.  We will be setting up at the Biodiversity Education Center with several radios, antennas and portable operating equipment, talking to other hams around the United States. You can take a close look at the gear, ask questions, and even take a turn at the microphone! Field Day occurs in the Summer and the Winter, to operate "in the field" and invite the public to get to know those in the hobby as well as experience the excitement of operating a real radio on the air. We'll be there from 1 pm to approximately 11 pm, so come out and see how much fun amateur radio can be! The Biodiveristy Education Center is located at 367 Freeport Pkwy inside Wagon Wheel Park. More information can be found at coppellhams.org.

"Mom's Favorites" Potluck

This month's theme is "Mom's Favorite." Senior Center Members are asked to bring a favorite dish celebrating a mother in their life. We're going to do something fun at this potluck, guaranteed to bring out the kid in you! Registration is not required. For seniors ages 50+.


Giving BEC

June 26  |   1 – 3 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

The Biodiversity Education Center will be hosting a volunteer opportunity for students ages 13 – 17 to come and participate in a group volunteer activity. Open to the first 50 teen attendees on the day of the program. No advance registration is required. For more information, email bec@coppelltx.gov.


Discover: Yo-yo

Join us for special performances by a variety of talented people. Intended for children going into grades K-5. Parents and younger siblings are invited to wait in the Commons area or play in the Toddler Zone.


Night Hike

June 26  |   7 – 9 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

Experience Coppell Nature Park in a new light:  Moonlight! Master Naturalists will encourage hikers to sharpen their senses to explore the thrilling sights, smells, and sounds of night at the Coppell Nature Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle. Space is limited. Register at coppellactivities.com.


Pickleball Open Play

Stop by and pick up a game of pickleball at The CORE's gymnasium. Available to CORE members and day pass holders. 


Eco Explorer

Drop in during visitor hours to learn about the Biodiversity Education Center, Coppell Nature Park, and the seasonal programs offered. While you're here, learn about the local environment through self-guided, hands-on activities, books, and other interactive items. Then take what you learn out on the trails to become true EcoExplorers! Check our Facebook page for weekly themes. Open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Free admission. No reservations required.​


Tour and Taste at Brinker International

Ever wonder what it's like to work in the food industry? Maybe you're interested in what it takes to work in a test kitchen? Maybe you just like food. If that sounds like you and you're entering 6th - 8th grade, you are invited to join the Cozby Library at the corporate headquarters of Brinker International, the parent company of Chili's and Maggiano's. While there, you'll get an  exclusive tour of their test kitchen and the opportunity to taste test and provide feedback on existing or potential menu items. Please note, this event is off-site. Registrants must plan their own travel to Brinker International at 3000 Olympus Blvd. We'll meet outside the building. Library staff will remain with attendees at all times during the event. Splish Splash Storytime

It's a special storytime at the pool! The CORE and the Cozby Library are partnering again this summer to offer Splish Splash Storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing, and fun! Storytime is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 10:45 am. If you would like to stay and swim after 10:45 am, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass, or pay the regular day pass rate.  For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE is located at 234 E. Parkway Blvd.


Pickleball Open Play

June 28  |   1:30 – 3:30 pm   |   Grapevine Springs Senior and Community Center

Come play a game of pickleball! All participants are required to sign a waiver before play each time. Sign-up is not required. Spectators are welcome as there may be a chance you can jump in if someone gets tired. For seniors ages 50+.


Coppell Farmers Market

June 29  |   8 am – Noon   |   Old Town Coppell

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. Yo-Yo Class with Val Oliver

Celebrate Coppell: Party in the Park

Coppell is Celebrating Independence Day in a big way! Celebrate Coppell - Party in the Park is Saturday, June 29, at Andrew Brown Park East from 5-11 pm. Event-goers will enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, games and other fun activities. Headlining is the energetic, Jordan Kahn Orchestra, the party band that covers favorite hits from all generations. A family area will feature an array of bounce houses and kid-friendly activities.
