Coppell is in the running for a national $20,000 'Meet Me at the Park' grant to fund improvements at Coppell Nature Park and is asking for community support.
Since Coppell Nature Park's inception over 10 years ago, citizens and the City have been working together to create a space where the children of Coppell can learn about the wonderful world around them. The nature park has grown from one trail to many miles of trails and added the Biodiversity Education Center in April of 2014.
The funding would go towards Nature Explore designed play and learn stations that facilitate nature education at Coppell Nature Park. Nature Explore recognizes a need for today's kids to break away from screens and reconnect with nature. The designs are research-based and use outdoor classroom features developed by teachers to engage kids through play. It typically includes a playground that utilizes natural elements like trees and water, a nature art area and community stage as well as incorporating physical activities like climbing, building and gardening. Coppell's plans will provide sensory learning experiences such as outdoor art easels, a water manipulation station, and a music and movement area - offering a local opportunity for kids that learn differently.
The natural play and learn area will be free, open to the public, and positioned between the Biodiversity Education Center and the trailhead of the Coppell Nature Park. It is intended to provide a unique and kid-friendly area for families to meet up and enjoy the outdoors.
The nomination-based contest asks supporters to write-in the city of their choice and submit it once per day during the month of April on www.meetmeinthepark.org. Coppell hopes to be the national write-in winner. Residents can help support this community project by nominating Coppell daily through the month of April. Here's how:
1. Coppell stakeholders can visit: www.meetmeatthepark.org 2. Register with your name and email address 3. Write in Coppell, Texas as the nominated city and click 'Submit Votes'.
