Grant to Fund Outdoor Play and Learn Area at Coppell Nature Park

Help improve one of Coppell's hidden gems by nominating the city for a $20,000 'Meet Me at the Park' grant at www.meetmeatthepark.org each day in April. The funding will go towards a play and learn space designed to facilitate nature education in Coppell Nature Park.

Coppell Nature Park is a 66-acre nature preserve located on the northwest corner of Wagon Wheel Park, 367 Freeport Pkwy, that boasts more than five miles of beautiful trails full of trees, flowers and other native foliage for citizens to enjoy. It is also a natural habitat for a number of animals including coyotes, bobcats and hawks and plays host to more than 130 different species of migratory birds throughout the year.

The Biodiversity Education Center (BEC) was added to Coppell Nature Park in April 2014 as a result of the joint effort between the residents of Coppell and the City to create a space for families to learn about and reconnect with nature. The BEC offers hands-on learning for children and families including environmental education lectures, nature classes and scout programs.

The Coppell Nature Park and the BEC would like to continue to expand these opportunities for youth in Coppell by installing a Nature Explore play and learn area. The space will be designed to foster nature learning in a fun environment incorporating such elements as water and sand play as well as building and art. It will be another way for children and families to enjoy and explore this wonderful natural resource right here in our City.
