January 11, 2017 --- At the January 10th Regular Session meeting, the Coppell City Council approved an ordinance to increase the current water and sewer rates by 13% beginning February 1, 2017 and to raise the current refuse rate by 3% effective January 1, 2017. The water and sewer rate increase is a pass-through rate adjustment to cover higher costs imposed by the Trinity River Authority (TRA) related to increased flow coming from Coppell, an increase in the rate charged by Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) for water purchased by Coppell, and to fund the small deficit incurred during fiscal year 2016. The amounts charged by TRA and DWU increase the cost of providing water and sewer service to Coppell residents. The refuse rate increase is also a pass-through rate increase that the City received from Republic Services to provide solid waste removal services to Coppell’s citizens.
