Teen Readathon: Hosted by Diverse Book Club
Saturday, March 12, 2022
Teens 6th - 12th grade are invited to the Teen Readathon, hosted by the Diverse Book Club.
The Teen Readathon is a teen service event where teens can try new books, share their thoughts & earn 2 service hours!
How it works: We'll have a variety of diverse books for middle grade and high school readers on display in Study Room F. A librarian will be available to offer book recommendations specific to attendees. Through Readathon participation, teens can earn 2 community service hours.
Once you arrive, you'll have 15 minutes to select books to try during the read-in. We'll read from 2:45 to 3:15 and then break for snacks, discussion, & sharing initial thoughts about the book for social media. We'll then read some more! Followed by another break for snacks & reviews. In the 2 hour window, teens will be able to explore new books AND earn service hours.
About the host: The Diverse Book Club is a teen-led group that creates a space where peers can discuss books that feature diverse experiences. Discussing diverse books includes talking about social issues such as race, socioeconomic class, identity, LBGTQIA+, mental health, and physical ability/health. The group is led by a New Tech High senior. It's recommended for teens in 9th-12th grade.
"I want to give teens from every walk of life a place to feel safe. We will bond not only over diverse books, but our diverse experiences as well. As a queer person, I want to let a variety of kids know that they are not alone, and that they always have a place to go to." -Grace Munro
