The City of Coppell is proud to announce that Mike Garza has been selected to serve as Director of Public Works effective March 1, 2023. Garza has worked as the City’s Assistant Director of Public Works since 2014 and replaces Kent Collins who was recently named the City’s Deputy City Manager.
Garza has been with the City of Coppell for 16 years starting as a graduate engineer in 2007. He also previously worked for the Texas Department of Transportation. Garza has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
“I’m excited for this new role and the opportunity to continue leading the Public Works Department,” Garza said. “I look forward to developing our team to help provide the best service to our residents and taking on any challenges ahead.”
During his time as Assistant Director of Public Works, Garza was involved in several major projects including the water system redundancy project, managing the reconstruction of N. and S. Freeport Pkwy., as well as Belt Line Rd., and implementing a new asset management work order system, which allows infrastructure to be repaired more efficiently.
“Mike will do an outstanding job leading the Public Works team and will be an integral partner with the entire organization,” said City Manager Mike Land. “He brings a wealth of knowledge regarding Coppell’s infrastructure and will make decisions for the future based on the best interests of our residents and businesses.”
Garza lives in Lewisville with his wife and their two children.
