City of Coppell Events

The City and its departments host a variety of family-friendly events each month from festivals and concerts to storytimes and workshops. Visit the City of Coppell’s online calendar for a list of this month’s offerings. 

 

EcoExplorer

June 1 - 29   |   9 am – Noon Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday   |   Biodiversity Education Center

Drop in during visiting hours every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to learn about the Biodiversity Education Center, Coppell Nature Park, and the seasonal programs offered. While you’re there, learn about the local environment through self-guided activities and interactive resources. Then, take what you learn out on the trails to become true EcoExplorers!

 

Bookmark Contest

May 20 – June 30  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Cozby Library wants to see your bookmark designs! Pick up a form at the library to create an original design and return it to the library by June 30. The winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed at the library. For ages 5 – 18+.

 

Coppell Historical Society – Kirkland House Tours

Built in 1904, the family home of John M. and Edna Jeanette Kirkland and their children, Hubert, Lois, Sallie, Jewel (Jack), Stringfellow, Louise, Carroll, and one who died in infancy, is open for tours. It was moved from its original location 474 feet due west and restored in 2011 by The Jean and Price Daniel Foundation, the Coppell Historical Society, and the City of Coppell.

 

Saturday Make & Take Crafts

June 3  |  9 am  |  Coppell Arts Center – The Mr. Copper Group Lobby Gallery

How about a fun, creative start to your weekend? Bring your family to the Coppell Arts Center located in Old Town Coppell one Saturday each month for free make-and-take craft workshops. Stop by anytime between 9 am — noon to create your craft. Kids will receive a do-it-yourself craft kit that they can assemble and customize at art stations inside the Coppell Arts Center. A parent must accompany all children at all times.

 

FCNP Guided Hike: Exploring Nature with your Senses

June 3  |   10 - 11 am   |   Biodiversity Education Center – Coppell Nature Park

Join the Friends of Coppell Nature Park for a guided hike to discover the wonders of our local ecosystem. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. Registration is required for each participant. Children must be supervised by an adult caregiver.

Caring for Your Orchids

June 10 | 10 am – Noon | Biodiversity Education Center

Charles Hess from the Greater North Texas Orchid Society offers hands-on assistance and information on keeping your orchids healthy and blooming. Do you talk to your orchids? You will learn how they talk to you through their leaves and roots. Bring in your orchids for a check-up and repot (materials are provided). This event is free, but registration is required. For ages 18+.

 

Coppell Community Chorale Presents: Sing Broadway Kids Music Camp

June 12 - 16 |   9 am – 4 pm   |   Coppell Arts Center 

Sing Broadway is a summer camp that serves rising 3rd-8th graders with a week full of games, singing and dancing Broadway show tunes. Campers will learn songs and choreography from kid-friendly Broadway shows taught by Coppell Children’s Chorus Directors and volunteers. Camp will culminate in a performance where campers showcase all they have learned throughout the week. Registration is $225 per child.

Father's Day at Heritage Park

June 17 | 10 am - 1 pm | Coppell Heritage Park, 700 S. Coppell Rd.

Celebrate dad at Heritage Park with two vintage automobiles — a 1929 Ford and a 1964 Corvette – snow cones, and a Coppell history lesson. Children can design Father’s Day cards with various stamps, stickers, and colors, and participate in the Junior Historical Program to earn a badge. While at Heritage Park, the family can tour the Kirkland House, Wilson House and Ihnfeldt House, then top off the day with a visit to the Minyard’s Grocery Store Museum & Gift Shop. Theatre Coppell - Superhero Adventures! Workshop I

June 19 - 23  |  9 am – 12 pm  |  Wheelice Wilson, Jr. Theatre – Coppell Arts Center

For Grades 1st – 3rd. Aspiring young thespians will take part in exciting activities in performance of scenes, costumes, make-up techniques, stage movement, and auditioning tips – all taught by actors and technicians who have practical knowledge and experience in the theatre arts. The workshop fee is $150 per child. All materials are provided, including a mid-session snack and a workshop T-shirt. Parents and friends are invited to watch the “wrap-up performance” on the last day.

Storytime at Heritage Park

The Coppell Historical Museum is hosting a free storytime this summer! A historical book will be read at each storytime followed by an activity. Families will also be able to tour the building. Visit coppellhistoricalsociety.org for more information.

Who could use a night out with friends right now? Paint & Sips are a fun way to create memories and masterpieces. Please bring your friends or significant other to wine up and then wind down during one of our two-hour painting classes. Purchase one $30 ticket per person.

 

The Hit Men: Classic Rock Supergroup

June 24 | 7 pm | Coppell Arts Center

Relive Rock’s greatest hits with The Hit Men – five fantastic musicians who have shared the stage with legendary artists, including members of Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Wings, Alan Parsons, Billy Joel, Sting, Elton John, Journey, The Who and Cream.   In this Ultimate Rock Concert, The Hit Men share their first-hand experiences as eyewitnesses to rock history, and perform classic hits you know and love…  “Layla,” “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and many more… just the way you remember them! Tickets are $39 plus fees
