Art Exhibit:  Contemporary Handmade Quilts

Through February 13

Please join us at the Coppell Arts Center’s Mr. Cooper Group Lobby Gallery for Contemporary Handmade Quilts, a traveling exhibition on loan from the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky, which pays homage to artists who use the traditional technique of hand quilting to create works of art. Contemporary artists employ varied materials such as cotton, silk, and dyes to create compositions inspired by their own histories, traditions, and lived experiences.

The exhibit is free to view, and no prior reservation is required. The Coppell Arts Center is open Tuesday - Saturday 10 am to 5 pm.

In compliance with local regulations and national health agency recommendations, masks are required to enter the Coppell Arts Center. In addition, you will go through a pass/fail thermal temperature screening to enter the building.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. Registration is required for each participant and space is limited. $3 fee.

Sweetheart Date Night

Grab your sweetheart, it's date night! Enjoy a fun and safe visit to The CORE with your child: have your photo taken, decorate a picture frame, and leave with a date night box full of goodies! Have more than one sweetheart in your house? Register additional family members to partake in the experience. Each family will receive one photo, frame, and box per family.

Winter Birds Trail Day

February 12 |   2 – 4 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

How do birds survive the winter season? Fly down to the BEC to discover the unique characteristics and adaptations of birds, migration challenges, and how YOU can help! Meet some winter bird residents as you explore the trails of Coppell Nature Park and make a bird feeder to take home! Trail Days are designed for families and youth ages 3-14. Drop in during open hours to learn about a theme in nature by exploring various activity stations on the trails of Coppell Nature Park. Maps are provided and station locations allow social distancing. Please arrive with enough time to complete activities before the close time. This program is FREE of charge and registration is not required.



Coppell Farmers Market

February 13 |   8 am – Noon   |   Old Town Coppell

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. Children’s Make-and-Take Craft Workshop

February 13  |  9 am – Noon  |  Coppell Arts Center

Stop by the Coppell Arts Center anytime between 9 am and Noon for a free children’s craft project! Facilitated by instructors from Createria Studios, kids will receive a do-it-yourself craft kit that they can assemble and customize at socially distanced art stations located within the Mr. Cooper Group Lobby Gallery. This month participants will paint wooden heart magnets with Valentine's Day in mind.  Let's paint our hearts out! CPR-AED

February 13  |   9 am – Noon   |   Life Safety Park

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. There is no minimum age requirement for this class; however, all registrants need to be capable of comprehending the material and participating in the activities. In general, this class suits ages 15+. Registration is required for CPR, and can be found by visiting LifeSafetyPark.org.

Black History Month Celebration

Every February, people across the nation come together for events and activities to celebrate Black History Month. It’s a time to continue the collective journey of honoring and deepening the knowledge of the history and contributions of Black Americans and people of African descent. The theme for Black History Month 2021 is The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity and is set every year by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History®, an organization founded in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the famed African American historian known as the “Father of Black History.” This Coppell Library’s Black History Month event aligns with the theme, spanning the various areas from business, education, arts, civics, technology, entertainment, sports, and more! Join us for uplifting and entertaining musical and vocal performances, storytelling, and a showcase of Coppell community members’ achievements and talents that highlight the history, diversity and achievements of our local Black community and the Black community nationwide. ARThouse Kids Art Class:  Banana Painting

Children ages 7-10 are invited to the Coppell Arts Center to learn and develop fine motor skills through art! During this class, children will use complimentary colors to create a banana painting on canvas. The cost is $30 and includes all supplies. An Evening with Patriots – Defenders of Freedom

Please join Defenders of Freedom on February 25 for our next Patriots Dinner as they hear from MSG Billy Howell Jr, Retired.  

Billy has had an incredible 24 year career in the US Army in which he was awarded the Purple Heart 5 times and includes graduating the Special Forces Qualifications course as the honor graduate for the Weapons Sergeants Course. Billy was a Horse Soldier as part of Task Force Dagger whose story is told in the movie 12 Strong. 

With more than 19 combat tours and 30 surgeries from his injuries and wounds, Billy is striving every day to overcome the effects of continuous combat deployments. He is the proud father of two young men and the grandfather to 5 wonderful grandchildren.
