Wildflower Scavenger Hunt

Through Tuesday, June 1

The race is on! Go on nature’s ultimate scavenger hunt for wildflowers. Spring is wildflower season, and each species has a turn in the spotlight. Visit Coppell Nature Park each week to discover what’s in bloom. Print off a list of native North Texas Wildflowers from the BEC website. Then complete your list by uploading photos to iNaturalist and receive a Texas native wildflower seed pack prize! Don’t forget to go on one of many naturalist-led hikes this spring for extra help. Deadline is June 1.


Run to Fund Virtual 5K Benefiting CISD

May 1-8  |  Virtual

The Coppell ISD Education Foundation invites you to their annual Run To Fund, this year taking place virtually May 1 - 8. This Coppell community-based 5K event will be a week of fun activities and prizes. Participants can run anywhere from a treadmill to the special race-course suggestions provided. There will also be a fun and socially distant "Finish Line" Experience on May 8 from 10 am - 2 pm at CHS to cap off the event.

Proceeds raised from Coppell ISD Education Foundation events allow them to award transformative classroom grants and bring innovative learning opportunities to all students in CISD. Additionally, CEF will give $2 from every Run to Fund race entry to the CISD Physical Education Department at the school of your choice. Visit the Run to Fund website to register.

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. City Nature Challenge Trail Day

May 1 |   2 – 4 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

The City Nature Challenge has become a global Citizen Science event. Each year, cities around the world compete to make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people. Visit the City Nature Challenge website for more information. Anyone and everyone can participate! During this event, Biodiversity Education Center staff and volunteers will be available to help you utilize the iNaturalist platform to make observations, guide you through the trails of Coppell Nature Park, and share their knowledge about the local wildlife you encounter. Trail Days are designed for families and youth ages 3-14. Drop in during open hours to learn about a theme in nature by exploring various activity stations on the trails of Coppell Nature Park. Maps are provided and station locations allow social distancing. Please arrive with enough time to complete activities before the close time. This program is FREE of charge and registration is not required.


Zoom Zentangle

May 3 |   1 pm  |   Virtual 

Join the Coppell Senior Center staff for an afternoon of Zentangle on Zoom. Zentangle is a fun and relaxing way to create beautiful art of structured patterns, called tangles. You’ll need a couple of sheets of plain paper, pencil, fine tip marker, and a sharpie marker. Take some time to “Zen” out with us and friends. Intended for adults ages 50+. May the Forest be with You Hike

Join a Master Naturalist on a hike through the nature park and learn how our forests grow, how they impact our environment, and how to identify the trees in our forests. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. Registration is required for each participant and space is limited. $3 fee.

Coppell FC Parent Info Sessions on Academy & Select Programs Webinars

Look no further for an academy soccer program for your U7-U10 player! Coppell FC offers an academy program focused on player development that has amazing coaches, great facilities through City of Coppell, and reasonable fees.

Old Town Anniversary – The Coppell Historical Society

The Coppell Historical Society will take part in the Old Town Anniversary event on May 8. They will have a table of antique items and vintage postcards for sale along with brochures about Heritage Park. The Old Minyard Store might be open for the sale of old-fashioned candies, but there will be no tour.

CozbyCon is back on Zoom this year! Join us for a variety of fun virtual activities. You only need to register once per household and then you can attend whichever activities you like with the same Zoom link. All ages are welcome. Children must attend with an adult.

Adult CPR-AED

May 13  |   6 – 9 pm   |   Life Safety Park

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. There is no minimum age requirement for this class; however, all registrants need to be capable of comprehending the material and participating in the activities. In general, this class suits ages 15+. Registration is required for CPR, and can be found by visiting the Life Safety Park website.


Got YA: Virtual Teen Book Club

Join Cozby Library and Community Commons for an informal chat about the books, movies, television, and music that are currently being enjoyed. Once they finish chatting, they’ll have a creative writing and/or drawing prompt. Maybe you'll find your next favorite read or connect with others who like the same books as you! Virtual Author Talk with Alka Joshi

Join Cozby Library and Community Commons for a virtual author talk with Alka Joshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Henna Artist. Alka was born in India, in the state of Rajasthan. Her family came to the United States when she was nine, and she now lives on California’s Monterey Peninsula. The Secret Keeper of Jaipur, her second novel will be out on June 22nd. In The Henna Artist seventeen-year-old Lakshmi makes her way alone to the vibrant 1950s pink city of Jaipur. There she becomes the most highly requested henna artist--and confidante--to the wealthy women of the upper class. Sunset Socials: Movie in the Park

Make a splash during Water Safety Month and head out to Andrew Brown East for a showing of the movie “Finding Dory!” Sunset Socials: Movie on the Lawn on Saturday, May 15 will feature a free showing of the film with everyone’s favorite blue tang on the big screen at sunset. Our Water Safety Experts from The CORE will be on hand for advice and tips on how to stay water safe year-round! Live, Love, Dance – Coppell Community Orchestra

May 16  |   3 pm   |   Coppell Arts Center

The Coppell Community Orchestra invites those of all ages to attend or view their “Live, Love, Dance!” concert on Sunday, May 16 at 3 pm, hosted by The Coppell Arts Center. Out of respect for the safety of patrons and musicians, the concert will feature socially distanced seating and require masks for attendance. The Arts Center will also livestream the event on their Coppell Arts Center YouTube channel. Visit coppellartscenter.org for free e-tickets so you can reserve your seat(s) in person.

This concert, entitled “Live, Love, Dance!”, will feature works centered around the themes of life, love, and dance. The Coppell Community Orchestra will feature small ensembles of Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. This hour-long concert will entertain and educate those of all ages. Join the Coppell Community Orchestra for this closing concert of the season and the first live audience performance since March 2020. Admission is free.

  

16th Annual Golf Outing

The Defenders of Freedom’s 16th Annual Golf Outing will be held on May 17th. This 2 course event has sold out year after year. Golfing on The Tribute and Old American Golf Courses our supporters are offered the opportunity for a day of unforgettable fun and an incredible opportunity to connect with the Veterans served by Defenders of Freedom. Build your team of three golfers and we will fill the fourth space with one of our Veterans. Registration and the start are at The Tribute: 1000 Lebanon Road, The Colony, TX 75056

Registration Options: Three golfers with a service member added to your team is $600. Four golfers without a service member is $600. A single entry registration is $200. Payment is due with registration by May 3. Register on the Defenders of Freedom website.

The Meet Your Neighbor Series continues virtually on May 22, 2021. Join the Cozby Library and Community Commons on Zoom to hear from a panel of community members as they tell their personal stories of Asian Cultures and Challenges. In order to build deeper understanding and empathy, audience members can ask questions of the panelists in a safe and comfortable environment. This is an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and learn from each other without debate. All ages are welcome. Children must attend with an adult. Grove Grooves:  The Bodarks

Coppell Farmers Market

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. EcoExplorer

The EcoExplorer program is venturing outdoors. Activity Kits will be available for pick up at the office window during visitor hours. Kits contain instructions and materials to complete learning activities throughout the trails of Coppell Nature Park. Themes change weekly and will be posted on the BEC Facebook page. Limit one kit per child. Take your trail experience up a notch! Drive-In Movies at the Coppell Arts Center:  Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella

The Drive-In is back! Park, pull out your lawn chairs, and enjoy the 1997 version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella with Whitney Houston.
