City of Coppell Holiday Scavenger Hunt

Through January 7

There are five holiday ambassadors hidden around town. Can you find all of them and win a prize? Simply solve the clues posted on the City’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages (one per day November 30 – December 4), snap a photo with each ambassador, upload photos to social media with the hashtag #coppellholidays, then stop by Town Center to claim your prize while supplies last! Coppell Youth Soccer Registration

Spring season registration for Youth, Adult Co-Ed, and Adult Men’s 7v7 is open! Visit Coppell Youth Soccer online for more information and to register. Spring season registration for Youth closes January 6. Spring registration for Adult Co-Ed and Adult Men’s 7v7 closes January 31.

  

Coppell Lions Club General Meeting

Each meeting includes the discussion of current and planned activities, as well as frequent guest speakers who discuss issues in and around Coppell, North Texas and Texas as a whole. Meetings are open to anyone that would like to attend. The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. FCNP Wildlife On The Move: Amazing Adaptations

January 8  |   10 am  |  Biodiversity Education Center

Join Mr. B for his extremely popular live animal program! See and learn about some unusual structural and behavioral adaptations that make it possible for some of our more interesting critters to survive. This program is hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park FREE of charge. There are two class times offered and all participants must register for the 10 or 11 am presentation. Space is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  

Second Saturday Storytime

January 8  |   11 am   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

All ages are welcome at Second Saturday Family Storytime, which incorporates stories, songs, rhymes, and more into a fun and interactive experience for the whole family. Space is limited, so plan to arrive early. Tickets are available at the front desk, 30 minutes before the start of the storytime.

 

Math SAT Prep

Struggling with math? Need some additional prep and guidance for the Math SAT section? Receive peer tutoring. Topics covered: SAT math, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, IB, and Math Analysis 1. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Registration is required

  

Coppell Historical Society Meeting

January 8  |   1 pm   |   Ihnfeldt House

The Coppell Historical Society will be meeting at the Infeldt House on January 8 at 1:00 p.m. A short program concerning some aspect of Coppell history is given prior to the business meeting. Visitors are welcome.

  

Meet Your Neighbor: Military Service

January 8  |   2 pm   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Join the Cozby Library and Community Commons to hear from a panel of community members as they tell their personal stories of Military service. In order to build deeper understanding and empathy, audience members can ask questions of the panelists in a safe and comfortable environment. This is an opportunity for community members to share their experiences and learn from each other without debate. For teens in grades 9 - 12 and adults. Go online for more information.   

  

Toddler Time

Storytime for 1-and 2-year-olds with their adult caregiver. Short stories, music, rhymes, and movement activities are incorporated in this action-packed program that engages toddlers in language-based activities. Space is limited, so plan to arrive early. Tickets are available at the front desk, 15 minutes before the start of the storytime. 

 

Baby and Me Storytime

January 10  |   11 am   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Babies from birth to crawling and their favorite adult will enjoy songs, action rhymes, and share books together in this one-on-one lap sit program. This storytime is designed to be a springboard for literacy, by exploring the senses with music, action rhymes, and age-appropriate reading. Come prepared to have fun with baby. After storytime, the Cozby Library and Community Commons invites you and baby to stay, socialize, and play with a variety of age-appropriate toys! Space is limited, so plan to arrive early. Tickets are available at the front desk, 30 minutes before the start of the storytime.

 

What’s That Bird?

January 10  |   7 pm   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

There are over a dozen different species of waterfowl, wading bird, and songbird that can be observed around the library during winter. Learn to recognize several different migratory species, in addition to year-round bird residents, in this introduction to urban birding. While this program is designed primarily for adults, children age 10 and up are welcome to join.

The Cozby Library and Community Commons will share tips and tricks from a wide variety of sources and offer optional writing prompts, timed exercises, and participants have a chance to share their writing in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Teen Crafternoon

Come craft with Cozby Library and Community Commons! Join them for a painting craft led by Teresa Mungo, a Coppell resident & crafter extraordinaire. Mrs. Mungo led several virtual crafts in summer of 2020, and they’re excited to learn from her in person! Supplies provided. Since acrylic paints will be used, participants should wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty. Registration is required. For teens in grades 6 - 12.  

 

Team Trivia and Feud

January 16  |   2 pm   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Enjoy an afternoon of Team Trivia at the library. Teams can consist of family members or friends or a mix. Not a great trivia player? They’ve still got you covered with a fun round of Family Feud where you can score most of your points. Play against other teams for a chance to win a gift certificate to a local Coppell restaurant. The program is for adults and kids 10 years and older (one adult must be present). Registration is required for each member so they have an accurate count of expected players.

The Diverse Book Club is a teen-led group that creates a space where peers can discuss books that feature diverse experiences. The group is led by a New Tech High senior. It’s recommended for teens in grades 9 - 12. Registration is required

Docent Training

January 22   |  1 – 3 pm  |   Biodiversity Education Center

Interested in taking your volunteer service to the next level? Become a BEC Docent! A Docent is an adult volunteer who receives training that qualifies you to facilitate activities unsupervised by staff. Activities may include guiding hikes, leading games or lessons for field trips, facilitating a learn station, and managing group service projects. After reviewing safety protocol and logistics, a newly trained Docent may assist tenured Docents or staff with these activities until you are comfortable leading independently. Please RSVP via email. Guided Bird Walk (Outdoor)

January 23  |   9:30 – 11 am   |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Join the Cozby Library and Community Commons for a guided walk to observe the bird species that can be found around the library. Participants should be prepared to walk approximately 1 mile. Many species we will be looking for can be easily observed without binoculars. For teens and adults. Registration is required

Hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park join the Friends for a guided hike to discover the wonders of our local ecosystem. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. This program is FREE of charge. Registration is required

Join the Coppell Early Childhood Association for their Annual Preschool Open House. Determine which school would be the best fit for your child’s preschool needs by meeting with local Preschool Representatives, learning the school’s philosophies, finding out registration information, tuition, and fees, and comparing notes with other preschool parents.
