An Evening with Laura Gao

Join the Friends of the Coppell Library and the community at An Evening with Laura Gao. Gao is the author and illustrator of MESSY ROOTS: A Graphic Memoir of a Wuhanese American. During the event, attendees will enjoy refreshments and a facilitated Q&A discussion with Gao. A book signing will follow. Gao is a 2014 Coppell High School graduate.  For teens in grades 9 - 12 and adults.

Community Meeting with Commissioner Koch

Theatre Coppell Presents: Steel Magnolias

May 6 – 8  |  Friday & Saturday 8 pm; Sunday 2:30pm  |  Coppell Arts Center

All the ladies who are anybody come to have their hair done at Truvy’s hair salon. Truvy is helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, who is not sure whether or not she is still married, and Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon Ouiser, (“I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years.”), an eccentric millionaire Miss Clairee, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter Shelby is about to get married. Later Shelby, a diabetic, risks her health to have a baby. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which makes them a truly touching, funny, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. Saturday Morning Guided Hike

Join the Friends of the Coppell Nature Park for a guided hike to discover the wonders of our local ecosystem. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Coppell Historical Society Open House

Kirkland House and the Minyard Store at Coppell Heritage Park are open to the public on the 2nd Saturday of most months from 10 am to noon. The Old Minyard Store will have old-fashioned candy and postcards of historic Coppell for sale.

 

FCNP Amazing Insects

Join Judy Meagher, North Texas Master Naturalist, to learn all about our native insects and the benefits they offer. Then we will look for insects among the Biodiversity Education Center gardens and Coppell Nature Park trails. Bug nets will be provided to catch and observe specimens up close. This program is hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park FREE of charge. Registration is required

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen: A Parent Effectiveness Workshop

Are your tired of reminding, repeating and rewarding to make kids listen? In this workshop for adults, learn the time tested, award winning communication methods of Parent Effectiveness Training, or P.E.T., presented by Betty Ficke, a certified P.E.T. and Positive Discipline instructor. P.E.T. offers techniques for improved communication and conflict resolution for parents and guardians of children of all ages. Registration is preferred, but not required.

Summer Reading Challenge

It’s easy to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge! Pick up a reading log at our Summer Reading Kickoff event or at the library. Each day you read (or are read to) for 20 minutes, color in a box on the reading log. Fill out the entry slips and return them to the library to win a FREE book and to be entered into the grand prize drawing. The first day to log your reading is Saturday, May 21. The last day to log your reading is Sunday, July 31.

17th Annual Golf Outing

Defenders of Freedom is thrilled to announce registration for their 17th Annual Golf Outing is now open!  Please join them on May 23 for a memorable experience at their two course event. The event still has room for golfers if interested in competing.
