Summer Reading Challenge
May 21 – July 31 | Library and Community Commons
It’s easy to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge! Pick up a reading log at the library. Each day you read (or are read to) for 20 minutes, color in a box on the reading log. Fill out the entry slips and return them to the library to win a FREE book and to be entered into the grand prize drawing. The first day to log your reading is Saturday, May 21. The last day to log your reading is Sunday, July 31.
Bookmark Contest

Nature is a source of inspiration to artists of all types. Explore the various ways experiences in nature can be expressed through drawing, writing and drama. Discover your inner artist by practicing each of these mediums. This program is designed for families and youth ages 3-14. Splish Splash Bash: Water/Heat Safety

This course is designed to teach K-5th graders about how to be safe in the summer sun and when finding relief in the water. Topics will include general water and pool safety practices, open water safety (life jackets), and heat safety. To cap off the class with some fun, students will then be treated to a water balloon fight out on Safety Town!

Outdoor Adventure Series — Streamside Scientist

Explore an aquatic habitat and assess its health using Coppell Nature Park as an outdoor laboratory! Practice the scientific method, measure physical and chemical properties of water, and conduct a biological survey. Participants are asked to wear appropriate outdoor clothing including close-toed shoes that can get wet and bring a water bottle. Space is limited and registration is required.

A special storytime at the pool! The CORE and the Cozby Library are partnering again this summer to offer Splish Splash Storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing, and fun! Storytime is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 10:45 am. If you would like to stay and swim after 10:45 am, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass, or pay the regular day pass rate. For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE is located at 234 E. Parkway Blvd.
Firefighter Show-And-Tell

This course is designed to teach Pre-K children about basic fire safety topics as they read a fire safety-themed children's book together. Students will then visit with a firefighter inside our fire station to learn about his/her role as a community helper.

The Absolutely Fabulous Magic Class is a wonderful alternative to a magic show. Teens will have enormous fun watching James perform some of the amazing magic tricks that he has used to entertain and baffle audiences around the world! After performing each trick, James teaches how it’s done! In addition to showing how the trick is done, James also teaches the children important performing information, such as incorporating stories and humor into the routines. Metal Foil Art Workshop

Splish Splash Storytime

A special storytime at the pool! The CORE and the Cozby Library are partnering again this summer to offer Splish Splash Storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing, and fun! Storytime is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 10:45 am. If you would like to stay and swim after 10:45 am, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass, or pay the regular day pass rate. For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE is located at 234 E. Parkway Blvd.
Outdoor Adventure Series — Go Solar!

Join us for this STEM based adventure build and explore solar cars. Learn how the construction of the BEC facilitates many sustainable design features promoting use of renewable resources. Participants are asked to wear appropriate outdoor clothing including close-toed shoes that can get wet and bring a water bottle. Register online.
Police Officer Show-And-Tell

This course is designed to introduce Pre-K children to police topics. Students will learn about stranger danger, and appropriate reasons to call 9-1-1. Students will then visit with a police officer inside our fire station to learn about his/her role as a community helper.
Basic Jr. Fire Academy

This course is designed to teach 2nd-3rd graders about intermediate fire safety and fire operations. They'll get to be a junior firefighter for a day by going through our LSP Fire Academy!
Coppell Farmers Market

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. Coppell Historical Society – Open House

Kirkland House and the Minyard Store at Coppell Heritage Park are open to the public on Saturdays of most months from 10 am to noon. The Old Minyard Store will have old-fashioned candy and postcards of historic Coppell for sale.
Coppell Historical Society Tie Dye Workshop

Participants ages 6-12 will dye provided bandanas and any other white garment they would like to experiment on. Though popularized in modern times by the counterculture movements of the 1960’s, tie-dyeing has a very ancient origin! All supplies will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring extra white garments. Cost per student is $25. Tickets are available online.

Bike Safety Rodeo

Nature’s Workshop — Birds

Did you know Hummingbirds weigh less than a penny? Did you know a Bald Eagle can grasp its prey with its talons and fly away with it? Those two divergent facts summarize why the study of birds is so fascinating. Create a bird wheel to learn interesting facts about 12 different birds! Expand your passion for learning about nature by creating a craft. Join us at the BEC as we enjoy a mini educational lesson and create a craft you can take home. Registration required for each participant. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Toddler Time

Rhythm Path’s drumming program is a unique program in which every student will have their own authentic West African djembe drum to play. Attendees will work as a team to accomplish the goal of making rhythms together! Teens will learn about the music and instruments of West Africa, learn various drum rhythms, and play songs together. For teens entering grades 6 - 12.
Adult West African Drumming Workshop

Fly down to the Biodiversity Education Center to learn about birds. Explore their unique characteristics and adaptations, meet some residents of Coppell Nature Park, and experience the challenges of a migration journey. Discover how YOU can help birds by protecting and creating their habitat. This program is designed for families and youth ages 3-14. Drop in during open hours to explore interactive learning stations inside the Biodiversity Education Center or on the trails of Coppell Nature Park. Please arrive with enough time to complete activities before the close time. This program is FREE of charge and registration is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn from current UNT students about how to get involved on campus. Starting college can be stressful, but making connections on campus through dorms, student organizations, and activities helps students alleviate stress, make new friends, and provide time away from schoolwork to build balanced and enjoyable lives. This program is best suited for incoming seniors, recent high school graduates, and new adults (18-25) who are about to start college.
