EcoExplorer
September 1–29 | 9 am – Noon Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays | Biodiversity Education Center
Drop in during visiting hours every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to learn about the Biodiversity Education Center, Coppell Nature Park, and the seasonal programs offered. While you’re there, learn about the local environment through self-guided activities and interactive resources. Then, take what you learn out on the trails to become true EcoExplorers! Themes last two weeks and will be posted on the BEC Facebook page.
North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive
September 1 – 30 | The CORE, 234 E. Parkway Blvd.
Every September during Hunger Action Month, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) creates awareness about food insecurity and hosts a Peanut Butter Drive to collect this shelf-stable, kid-friendly protein to help feed our hungry neighbors. The goal for the 2022 drive is to collect 500,000 pounds of peanut butter.
Join the Coppell City Council and help NTFB meet their goal dropping off regular-sized, plastic jars of peanut butter (other nut butters and sunflower butter also accepted) at The CORE or Metrocrest Services, 3801 Hutton Drive, Suite 150 in Farmers Branch. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
Costume Drive

Donate your gently used Halloween costumes for our Costume Swap! When you donate a costume, pick up a ticket to return from 2 – 3 pm on Saturday, October 1, to pick out a new costume at the Costume Swap.
Allies in Community School Supply Drive
Through September 30 | All Care Veterinary, 353 N. Denton Tap Rd.
The Coppell Allies in Community invite the community to help support local CISD students in need in this year's school supply drive. Each school year, CISD supports up to 50 homeless students by providing items such as backpacks, pencils, and other school supplies. Items can be dropped off at All Care Veterinary at 353 N. Denton Tap Road through the end of September. Email Allies questions about the supply lists or drop-off. For more information visit Allies in Community® online.
FCNP Saturday Guided Hikes

Join the Friends of Coppell Nature Park for a guided hike to discover the wonders of our local ecosystem. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to wear protective clothing and bring a water bottle. This program is hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park FREE of charge. Registration is required. Open to all ages.

Coppell Arts Center Presents: The Dallas Symphony Orchestra

The Coppell Arts Center will host 60 musicians from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as they perform a selection of works. Tickets are $25 at Coppell Arts Center.
Coppell Community Garden Plant Sale
September 10 | 8 am – Noon | Coppell Farmers Market, 768 W. Main St.
The Coppell Community Garden program will hold its annual fall plant sale at the Coppell Farmers Market on September 10! The Plant Sale will include many varieties of broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, swiss chard, bok choy and cilantro. All of these transplants have been grown organically in our greenhouse.
All proceeds go to the Coppell Community Garden program, a 501(c)(3) organization that donates fresh organic produce to the Metrocrest Services food pantry in Carrollton. The garden program also supports local school gardens and budding gardeners at Coppell ISD schools.
FCNP Mycology 101

Learn about mushrooms from Eva Gordon, Vice President of the North Texas Mycological Association and Texas Master Naturalist, a twenty-year AP Science and STEM educator. The class is an introduction to the world of mycology or the science of fungi. This session will be for “FUNGuys/Gals” only. This event is open to ages 12 and above. This program is hosted by the Friends of Coppell Nature Park FREE of charge. Registration is required.

Coppell Historical Society – Membership Meeting

The Coppell Historical Society meets at Ihnfeldt House in Heritage Park at 700. S. Coppell Road on the second Saturday of the month from September to May (No summer meetings). A short program concerning some aspect of Coppell history is given prior to the business meeting. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are welcome.

Nature’s Workshop – Make Your Own Monocular
September 14 | 10 – 11 am | Biodiversity Education Center
Naturalists use tools to make observations about their environment. One of those tools is the monocular. Using properties of light and refraction, we will create a monocular and then put it to practical use on a hike. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required. For ages 6-8.
Exploring Nature Series – Become a Naturalist
September 16 | 9 am – Noon | Biodiversity Education Center
Transform from a passive spectator of nature into an engaged learner through journaling and citizen science. Explore Coppell Nature Park to discover the components of local habitats, develop observation skills, and record your encounters using low- and high-tech tools. Use materials from nature to create artwork or share photographs online to help scientific research and promote environmental conservation.
The Exploring Nature Series content is similar to our popular Junior Master Naturalist program. It allows flexibility but does not include certification. Participants are asked to wear appropriate outdoor clothing including close-toed shoes that can get wet and bring a water bottle. Space is limited and registration is required. For ages 9 – 12.

Paint & Sip Art with Createria Studios
September 21 | 6 pm | Coppell Arts Center – Reception Hall
Who could use a night out with friends right now? Paint & Sips are a fun way to create memories and masterpieces. Please bring your friends or significant other to wine up and then wind down during one of their two-hour painting classes. They’ll provide all the painting supplies so you can enjoy a stress-free evening with your instructor Kate Shema of Createria Studios. As for the sip part of the event, a selection of beer and wine will be available for purchase at the bar. Other than water, outside beverages are not permitted. Participants will individually work on the same theme. No experience necessary, just an open spirit and willingness to have fun! Tickets are $30 per person at Coppell Arts Center.
FCNP Wildflower Seed Bombs

Help restore wildlife habitat by making wildflower seed bombs with us! You can throw your seed bomb into designated wildscape areas at Coppell Nature Park or take it home to grow in your yard! While you’re there, step inside the Biodiversity Education Center visitor center to learn about the prairie ecosystem and pollinators during our EcoExplorer program. All materials will be provided. This program is FREE of charge and registration is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All ages are welcome.

Budding Curiosity – The Egg Pop-Up Book
September 26 | 10 – 11 am | Biodiversity Education Center
Which came first – the chicken or the egg? While this may be one of life’s mysteries, there is no mystery about what happens inside an egg. Join us as we learn about different animals who begin life in an egg. We will make a book to take home.
Join the BEC staff for an education program that builds on a sense of wonder, inviting youth to explore nature and the world around them. Through activities and crafts our program reinforces a foundation for developing positive impressions about nature. Adults are encouraged to actively participate with their children as we enjoy learning together. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required for each participant. For ages 3-5.

Theatre Coppell – The Miracle Worker
September 30 – October 2 | Friday & Saturday 8 pm; Sunday 2:30 pm | Coppell Arts Center
The Miracle Worker is a play by William Gibson adapted from his 1957 Playhouse 90 teleplay of the same name. It was based on Helen Keller's 1903 autobiography The Story of My Life. In Tuscumbia, Alabama, an illness renders infant Helen Keller blind, deaf, and consequently mute. Pitied and badly spoiled by her parents, Helen is taught no discipline and, by the age of six, grows into a wild, angry, tantrum-throwing child in control of the household. Desperate, the Kellers hire Annie Sullivan to serve as governess and teacher for their daughter. After several fierce battles with Helen, Annie convinces the Kellers that she needs two weeks alone with Helen in order to achieve any progress in the girl's education. In this time, Annie teaches Helen discipline through persistence and consistency, and language through hand signals, a double breakthrough that changes Helen's life and has a direct effect on the lives of everyone in the family. Tickets are $22 for adults and $19 for seniors and students at Coppell Arts Center.
